Research with purpose drives SKEMA’s research policy. We define research with purpose as significant (addressing big societal questions); timely (stakeholders need rapid insights in an increasingly complex world); global (relying on the global reach through SKEMA international campuses); and transferable (through talks and conferences, round-tables, position papers, yearly indicators and intimate exchanges with companies).

Research at SKEMA has reached a degree of maturity that enables scholars to exert influence through insights derived from their high-level published academic research. SKEMA ThinkForward, the knowledge-sharing medium where the professors and experts of SKEMA Business School can express themselves, SKEMA PUBLIKA, an international think tank aiming to anticipate societal and geopolitical transformations of tomorrow and fuel public debate while also issuing recommendations for national and international policymakers, as well as yearbooks and observatories, are privileged diffusion channels to freely share knowledge and insights with our multiple stakeholders.

Committees

  • The role of the research ethics committee is to provide support for faculty and PhD students at SKEMA Business School as they navigate complex legal and regulatory requirements. The committee guides individuals as they carry out research in line with the mission and values of SKEMA Business School,, and enables discussions about the moral issues facing researchers (providing formal ethical clearance as required). SKEMA Business School has been determined to avoid developing lengthy and time-consuming box-checking exercises for discussions around ethical and moral issues in research, preferring instead, in line with the school's culture, to base its approach on information and discussion. The approach does not preclude the provision of formal ethical clearance, but places the onus on faculty and PhD students themselves to take responsibility for their ethical and moral stance, with the Research Ethics Committee in an active supporting role.

Our approach to research ethics is summarised in the SKEMA Research Code of Ethics (September 2022), which sets forth a code of ethics for all permanent faculty and PhD students at SKEMA Business School to use in their research activities. The aim of the code is to enunciate a common set of principles to guide the actions of researchers at SKEMA Business School, complementary to any legal or regulatory requirements in force.

The SKEMA Research Code of Ethics covers four activities:

    • How we produce and publish research at SKEMA
    • Professional interactions in research
    • Interactions resulting from research impact activities
    • Emerging activities

The requirements of the code are structured into three categories:

    • Mandatory principles
    • Expected behaviors and attitudes
    • Advice
  • The Research Advisory Committee (RAC) is an important part of our governance structure. The aim of the RAC is to provide advice and recommendations to the Board of Directors and general management about research strategy, research management, assessment of intellectual production, incentives to faculty, fundraising and research relevance.

    • The RAC comprises the following members:
    • Audra Boone, TCU - Neeley School of Business (USA)
    • Eileen Fischer, Schulich School of Business - York University (Canada)
    • Tomi Laamanen, University of St Gallen (Switzerland)
    • Kathleen Wantz, KEOLIS SA, Paris (France)
    • George Yip, Imperial College London (UK)
